Susan’s Legacy

Are you curious about Susan E. Stutz-McDonald and her impact on the water industry?

History

In 2005, Carollo Engineers lost a Partner, colleague, and friend with the passing of Susan E. Stutz-McDonald. Susan began her career with Carollo in 1978 and with hard work, dedication, and a spirit of accomplishment, rose to the highest level of the company. In addition to her role as a Senior Project Manager, Susan also served as a Partner at Carollo Engineers, the Director of Research & Development, Chairman of Carollo's Marketing Committee, and the only female elevated to the Board of Directors to date. Susan also served as the Office Manager at Carollo Engineers home office in Walnut Creek, CA.

Susan had a unique passion for the water and wastewater industry, which manifested itself in the successful completion of numerous environmental projects. Her enthusiasm for her profession had a positive impact throughout our industry, as evident by the admiration and respect her colleagues had for her talents and desire to advance the field of Environmental Engineering.

Susan was dedicated to training and mentoring young engineers with a specific interest in promoting the achievements of women in the industry. As a means of advancing this goal, Susan's desire was to establish a Non-Profit Foundation for providing scholarships to women engineers to help expand their education and career in the environmental engineering field. Shortly after her passing in 2005, the Susan E. Stutz-McDonald Scholarship Foundation was established, to help accomplish Susan's goal.

Goals

The goal of the SESMSF is to award scholarships to female civil engineers enrolled in a graduate-level Environmental Engineering program who want to pursue a career aimed at solving the growing world’s water problems.
